sinfonia of london
This concert marked the Sinfonia of London’s Aldeburgh Festival debut. Recently re-established by conductor John Wilson, the Sinfonia has already been hailed as one of the leading orchestras in the UK. For this concert, the Sinfonia of London was joined by featured artist, Baritone Roderick Williams, for a highly atmospheric program of orchestral showpieces including Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, which famously appeared in Disney’s Fantasia, and a world premiere by Sally Beamish. The program concludes with Rachmaninoff's final composition for orchestra, his Symphonic Dances. Program: The Sorcerer’s Apprentice - Paul Dukas Four Songs from Hafez* - Sally Beamish (world premiere of orchestral version, Britten Pears Arts commission) Fountains of Rome - Ottorino Respighi Symphonic Dances, Op.45 - Sergei Rachmaninoff Roderick Williams- Baritone*
