GRAMMY Award-winning pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim tackles the so-called 'New Testament' of music, Ludwig van Beethoven's thirty-two piano sonatas. Composed over twenty-five years and embodying the shift of musical taste from the Classic to the Romantic, their performance requires a musician of extraordinary versatility. Daniel Barenboim is one such pianist – his recordings run the gamut from Bach and Mozart to Bruckner and Bartók. In following in the footsteps of such masters as Artur Schnabel, Barenboim truly shows himself to be among the greatest living musicians.

Its 1,865 seats make the Deutsche Oper Berlin the largest opera house in Berlin and also Germany’s second-largest opera theatre. Opera history has been written here since 1912: chief conductors such as Bruno Walter, Lorin Maazel, Christian Thielemann and, since 2009, Donald Runnicles, have forged the theatre’s international reputation as a venue for grand opera; directors including Götz Friedrich and Hans Neuenfels, Christof Loy and Philipp Stölzl have created milestones of modern musical theatre here. With its broad repertoire ranging from Mozart to Richard Strauss and expanded under Dietmar Schwarz’ tenure since 2012 by regular world premieres on the main stage and cycles including, among others, Meyerbeer’s and Britten’s major works, the Deutsche Oper Berlin offers its audience the opportunity of experiencing opera at the highest level and in almost unmatched variety on more than 200 evenings per year.

Christopher Wheeldon OBE (Director & Choreographer) trained at The Royal Ballet School and joined The Royal Ballet in 1991. In 1993, he joined New York City Ballet and was promoted to Soloist in 1998. He was named NYCB’s first Resident Choreographer in July 2001. Since then, Mr. Wheeldon has created and staged productions for many of the world’s major ballet companies. Here are the best of those productions!

Boris Giltburg has set out to learn and film all 32 piano sonatas by Beethoven by the end of 2020. The project started as a personal exploration, driven by curiosity and his strong love of the Beethoven sonatas.

Double Olivier Award winning choreographer, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui is the artistic director of both Ballet Vlaanderen and Eastman, and is a Sadler’s Wells associate artist. His work encompasses an array of projects and collaborations; ranging from contemporary dance to theatre, ballet, opera, musicals and other forms of performance. This collection features work for Ballet Vlaanderen, Eastman, and Bayerische Staatsoper, as well as collaborations with Akram Khan, Antony Gormley and the Shaolin monks.

Shakespeare - from classic to contemporary interpretations, across styles and genres, his words and stories speak to all of us. This collection gathers together productions from the Royal Shakespeare Company, The Globe Theatre, Donmar Warehouse, Glyndebourne, The Royal Ballet, Opera Zurich and more. Standout performances include David Tennant as Richard II (RSC), Harriet Walter in the all-female Donmar Warehouse trilogy, Adrian Edmondson as Malvolio (RSC), Joyce diDonato as Romeo (Opera Zurich), and Barbara Hannignan as Ophelia (Glyndebourne).

Akram Khan is one of the foremost innovative choreographers in the world today. Embracing an artistic vision that both respects and challenges Indian kathak form and contemporary dance, Khan has created a substantial body of critically acclaimed work ranging from classical and modern solos to artist-to-artist collaborations and company productions. This collection features some of his best known artist collaborations as well as his multi-award winning Giselle.

The London International Festival of Early Music is one of the largest and most inclusive early music festivals in the world. The festival began in 1973 and was first hosted at the Royal College of Music. The event moved to the Royal Horticultural Halls, and Greenwich, before finally finding its home at Blackheath Halls, in London’s oldest surviving purpose-built cultural venue.
