Music
On 5 September 1920, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra gave its very first concert. It was a gamble: in unprecedented times, a city recovering from war and pandemic had put its faith in the power of music to enrich lives. 100 years later, the CBSO celebrated its 100th birthday with an online spectacular unlike anything in its history. Starring Sir Simon Rattle, Roopa Panesar and Sheku Kanneh-Mason; hosted by Adrian Lester and featuring music by Elgar, Saint-Saens, Hannah Kendall and AR Rahman, it’s a journey in music, words and images through a century of adventure and innovation. An unforgettable salute to a great orchestra - and a great city.
