The Nutcracker (2018)
The Royal Ballet
ballet

The Australian Ballet's performance of Peter Wright's The Nutcracker captivates from start to finish. Benedicte Bemet is the absolute star as Clara, commanding the role with grace and never losing her magical presence. Her beautiful movements seem to soar, as she joins the Arabian, Chinese and Russian dances in Act II. Madeleine Eastoe and Kevin Jackson dance as one in the grand pas de deux, truly wonderful to watch! Eastoe's command of the choreography is beyond question, every movement beautifully expressed. Andrew Killian makes his presence felt as the occasionally frightening Drosselmeyer, softening in Act II as he guides Clara through the magical adventure. Ingrid Gow impresses as Clara's mother with expressive, tender moments. Peter Wright's beloved production for the Australian Ballet remains a joyful treasure and worthy addition to any ballet collection, a cherished holiday tradition brought to life.
