Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks' gentle and transfixing "Vox Amoris" leaves the room silent with admiration for violinist Richard Tognetti's heart-wrenching playing. Bach's deeply romantic Chorale Prelude beautifully complements Schoenberg's bold and dramatic "Verklärte Nacht," inspired by Richard Dehmel's poem about a couple's moonlit forest walk. In the poem, the woman confesses to her lover that she is pregnant with another man's child. This early Schoenberg masterpiece vividly captures the man's journey from painful melancholy to joyous acceptance as he forgives his lover and embraces the joy of a new baby.

This gorgeous concert illustrates the transformative power of love, taking us on a journey through somber hues and shadows to warmth and radiant light.
