Inspired by the universal struggle to find hope in an uncertain future, this evocative concert pairs some of Bach's timeless Sonatas and Partitas with contemporary compositions by Richard Tognetti and Nick Drake.

Bach’s Ricercar from "The Musical Offering," featuring guest flutist Emmanuel Pahud (Principal Flute of the Berlin Philharmonic, filmed at the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin), is a tumultuous six-part fugue infused with personal anguish. In contrast, his "Erbarme dich" from the "St. Matthew Passion" offers a heartfelt plea for comfort, with a moving cello solo by ACO Principal Timo-Veikko Valve. Richard Tognetti’s contemporary composition "Beyond," inspired by images of underwater swimmers seemingly caught in the “troubled peace” between life and death, seamlessly connects with Bach's profound works.

Filmed in a visually stunning blend of locations, this concert film masterfully intertwines classical and contemporary themes, exploring hope, despair, and the search for solace. The Australian Chamber Orchestra's innovative approach creates a captivating experience that bridges centuries of musical expression, making this performance an unforgettable journey through time and emotion.
